Anotha ONE: DJ Khaled does it again with new album ‘Father of Asahd’

By Jordan Harris

If you don’t know DJ Khaled as one of the best DJs to ever do it, then I’m not sure if you’re just old school, or living under a rock.

DJ Khaled has been producing hits for as long as I can remember.

He’s one of those artist that you probably have been listening to since you were younger but never quite realized that was him screaming in the background “DJ Khaled” every time the beat dropped.

Well recently, that once underrated DJ that was always screaming in the back released his 11th studio album titled “Father of Asahd”

And yes, that handsome young man on the left is Dj Khaled’s only son Asahd.

Usually you hear of artists celebrating their 2nd or 3rd album.

But this legend is on his 11th!!

That’s double digits people.

DJ Khaled believes this is his “best body of work.” He says the first 10 albums got him here but THIS is the next chapter.

If I say so myself, I think the album was very good.

This album featured so many talented artists ranging from Ceelo Green to Gunna to the queen B.

However, I was a little surprised to see that ChampagnePapi Drake was not featured on the album.

Is there beef guys? Or was Drake just too focused on his beloved Raptors and their journey to the NBA championship?

Either way, we missed you Champagne.

Another highlight for me and probably anyone who took the time out to listen to the album was the record “Higher” featuring John legend and Nipsey Hussle.

This song along with the music video was recorded not long before Nipsey’s passing. Because of that, DJ Khaled decided to donate all the proceeds from “Higher” to Nipsey’s children.

Now that is what you call brotherhood.

After listening to this album almost everyday since it came out, I can officially say it was a success, and hopefully DJ KHALED gives us ANOTHA ONE soon!

Social media has created many stars. But is ‘That Girl Lay Lay’ the next big thing when it comes to young rappers?

By Jordan Harris

If the name “That Girl Lay Lay” does not ring a bell in your head then that means you are hypothetically living under a rock, or you are just not on social media.

Either way…. Catch Up!

Alaya High better known as That Girl Lay Lay, is one of many up and coming young rap stars with a bright future ahead of her.

Lay Lay, like many other rappers and artist started on social media with her famous #FREESTYLEFRIDAY.

Her first viral freestyle dropped only a year ago over Blocboy JB’s “shoot” and is up to over 400k views on IG and thousands of retweets on twitter.

Once these freestyles became popular and quickly went viral, Lay Lay became a star more and more each day.

These very anticipated weekly freestyles even landed Lay Lay her own RECORD DEAL!!

And NO! Not just ANY-OLE record deal but a record deal with Empire as the youngest female rapper to sign with a major record label at 11 years old, according to XXL Magazine.

That is HUGE!

Since Lay Lay signed with Empire, she has been quite busy being the star that she is.

Recently Lay Lay has announced the “Bounce Tour Live” featuring herself and friends.

For a girl who started off by simply doing what she loved and sharing it on Instagram, she is doing very well for herself.

Lay Lay is not ONLY about the music, however.

In one of Lay Lay’s latest freestyles she announced the upcoming release of her new “Lyric Lip Gloss” line. Coming real soon.

Can’t wait to grab mine!

Lay Lay has done music with Dillon Francis and T-Pain for The LEGO Movie and even performed at LEGOLAND.

The fame does not stop there. Lay Lay has made an appearance on Nick Cannon’s “Wild-n-Out” and even “The Ellen Show”

…I wish!!!

Those are not the only shows Lay Lay, seems to be working with, however.

Lay Lay, was seen posted up against the “Nick” sign captioning her photo “Stay Tuned”

I’m excited already… is it a movie? Or a show?

I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

Lay Lay has done car commercials and even had a partnership with the jewelry brand “Alex and Ani” that caused so much attention that the site crashed.

Oh, and did I mention she is from H-Town, which is also the hometown of Queen Bey!!

So, she’s gotta be a star, right?!?

It’s hasn’t even been a year since she signed in August 2018 and Lay Lay has accomplished so much by just starting out on Instagram.

The question is will That Girl Lay Lay stay on top, or will she fall like many up and coming artists in the past?

Can’t nobody tell him nothing: Lil Nas X’s momentum isn’t stopping any time soon

By Jordan Harris

I’m sure by now you’ve all heard of the viral country rapping phenom known as Lil Nas X.

Rising quickly to stardom after dropping his country-trap single “Old Town Road,” Lil Nas found himself at number 1 on the Billboard Charts for five weeks straight, but it wasn’t a smooth path to the top.

“Old Town Road” first hit the Billboard Hot 100 list at number 53 on Country Airplay in March. Billboard placed the song, released by Sony’s Columbia Records, on the Hot Country Songs chart, where it debuted at No. 19, according to Billboard Business writer Melinda Newman.  The following week, the song was removed after Billboard claimed it didn’t meet the country genre standards.

This is where what we know as Black Twitter came in with a “hell to the naw.”

Several artists and fans alike believed the removal of the song had to do with race.

It seems country to me…

It also seemed pretty country to COUNTRY SINGER, Billy Ray Cyrus, who hopped on the remix, and here we are 5 weeks later and the song beat out Taylor Swift for number 1 on the Hot 100.

Congrats @lilnasx 🤠 I’m always in your corner! #1 #OTR #OldTownRoadREMIX

People began to stand with Nas X and his single “Old Town Road” rather than stand against him, the way Billboards seemed to have done.

Since then, it seems as though Lil Nas X isn’t stopping anytime soon.

Lil Nas and Billy Ray recently performed together for the first time with DJ Diplo and Nas also hinted at a music video in the works.

With all this success, how could anyone see a reason to pull such a hit from the record books?

I can’t remember a time where there were specific country music laws that needed to be followed in order to be considered a number 1 charted artist.

But that’s not where the hating ended.

Not too long ago a sign was put up, awarding ONLY Billy Ray Cyrus on the new remix of “Old Town Road”

Billy took it upon himself to drive to the sign only congratulating himself to hold up another sign saying “I would not have this sign without Lil Nas X and Kio”

On my way home from the gig. Wanted to say thank you @lilnasx and @youngkio_ Take My Horse To The Old Town Road.

Billy Ray Cyrus and many more are coming together to support not just any song, but a popular country rap song by a young African American male hitting number one, for a song in a genre of music African Americans are not widely represented in a whole lot.

This is something to celebrate.

In a clip posted to his Instagram, Billy Ray talked about how great and different their writing and recording session went. And since then, I think it’s safe to say the two are buds.

They were in fact out riding REAL horses together

Can I join?!

Lil Nas was also a recent guest on “Showtime’s Desus and Mero”, posted a picture with John Meyer and has hinted at dropping his album soon.

At this point he seems unstoppable.

Whether the “officials” see it or not, “Old Town Road” is a HIT! And always will be. We just have to learn to give credit when credit is due and stand up for each other the way Billy Ray did for Lil Nas X, at ALL times.

And we have to keep an eye out for this star in the making.
